Cummins’ RA Series automatic transfer switches are designed to work seamlessly with RS series generator sets. Specifically, the RA112N3 model offers a dual-pole, 100 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch, tailored for 120/240-Volt single-phase systems. It should be noted that this switch is not rated for service entrance use.

Functioning round the clock, the RA112N3 continually monitors the utility power. In the event of power failure or subpar utility power quality, it prompts the generator to start. Once the generator is operational and stable, the switch automatically reroutes the power load from the utility to the generator. Conversely, when normal utility power is restored, it seamlessly transitions the load back to utility power, requiring no manual intervention from the homeowner.

The RA series, including the RA112N3, meets the requirements for standby power systems in residential and light commercial settings. These switches are certified under UL-1008 and comply with the standards set by the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). They are housed in NEMA Type 3R Aluminum Enclosures, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations.

The switching mechanism in the RA112N3 employs a robust solenoid and operates on a “break-before-make” principle, ensuring that the utility connection is disconnected before establishing a connection to the generator. This process is reversed when switching back from generator to utility power.

To maintain safety, the RA112N3 incorporates both electrical and mechanical interlocks, which prevent the simultaneous connection of both utility and generator power, ensuring that they never intersect.

These switches adhere to NEMA ICS 10 and NFPA 70 regulations and hold a UL-1008 listing, affirming their safety standards, which include UL-listed CU-AL terminals.
